Chapter 6

So, once more he had a plan.
All the things he did now were all aimed towards another bite of the (foreign) cherry. He didn't have a job, the only money coming in was from the DHSS, his giro. It was hard. He saved like a madman, trying to get by spending as little money as possible.

Buying his rucksack was a sign both to himself and others that he was really serious about his Europe trip. The rucksack was of average size - he hadn't wanted to buy something too large knowing he'd fill it to its maximum. He went to the local library to read books on travelling in Europe. He also bought a couple of books, one of them with information about the best places to look for work, the other giving addresses of the best (and cheapest) places to stay. It took almost a year for him before he was ready, both financially and mentally. Two disappointments so far, surely it couldn't happen a third time?
